A Memorial to Chiang Kai-shek
Opened in 1980, the memorial to Chiang Kai-shek is a distinctive looking building with a blue octagonal roof, located on the east end of Liberty Square. Walking around the memorial and grounds makes a pleasant way to spend an afternoon. Children will especially enjoy feeding giant koi fish in the garden pond. Two sets of white stairs with 89 steps each (representing his age at death) lead up to a memorial statue, which is guarded by two soldiers dressed in white. A changing of the guard ceremony takes place each hour. The ground level of the memorial houses a library, a museum documenting Chiang Kai-Shek's life and career, and an art gallery.
