Former Home of CKS with Gardens
A short walk 5-10m from the Shilin MRT station is the former residence of Chiang Kai-Shek, where he lived for the last 26 yrs of his life. While the actual residence might not be that interesting for young kids, the parks, gardens, and ponds around the area are very fun to explore with kids. From the main entrance visitors can see Madame Chiang’s former Cadillac followed by a large rose garden and various flower displays. There are Western and Chinese style gardens, large grassy fields where kids can run around, and a wooden boardwalk where visitors can see birds and insects near an eco-pond. Close by is the horticultural exhibition hall, which displays orchids and other plants. If you do decide to visit the actual residence (NT$100 for adults, children free), they have glass panels fencing off the actual rooms, so there’s little risk of children damaging the antiques.
Across the street from the CKS Shilin Residence is Fulin Park, which has big rock formations kids might like to explore. In addition, across the street from Fulin Park on the North side is Zhicheng Park, which has a large playground with both little kid and big kid playsets.
