Guandu Temple

Guandu Temple - A Toddler in Taipei - Explore Taiwan with Kids

A Large Temple near Guandu Nature Park

Guandu Temple is located in Beitou, and is a 10 minute walk from Guandu Nature Park. The temple is a fascinating place to explore with kids, as the buildings in the temple complex are decorated with traditional Chinese stone lions, dragon pillars, and colorful roof tops. At the center of the temple is a large sitting Mazhu, the Goddess of the Sea. On a hill behind the temple is a traditional Chinese-style park with great views of the river, nearby mangrove swamps, and even Taipei City. Another interesting place to see is a tunnel lined with 28 statues of Buddhist sprits, which leads to a very impress statue of a thousand-armed and thousand-eyed Guanyin, Goddess of Mercy.

Near the main entrance of the temple are stands selling toys, and across the street from the temple is a large lot where kids can drive around battery powered cars. Kids might also like to see the turtles, eels, and fish for sale at the nearby food court across the street from the temple's side entrance.
