Zhishan Cultural and Ecological Garden and Park

Guandu Temple - A Toddler in Taipei - Explore Taiwan with Kids

A Park with Bird Rehabilitation Center

Located across from Yangming Hospital in Shilin District, there’s lots for kids with an interest in nature to explore at this park. At the main entrance to the Zhishan Cultural and Ecological garden is an ecological pond with various wildlife, a very old tree where rope climbing activities take place, a green house with plants as well as frogs + turtles, a cultural museum, and a bird rehabilitation center consisting of big metal cages with falcons, magpies, owls, and other types of birds. The entrance charge for this area is NT$50 fee (but free for visitors from Shilin District). The cultural museum has a miniature replica of the park underneath glass flooring near the entrance, and some displays featuring stuffed birds and pinned beetles on the 2nd floor, but the rest of the exhibits might not be as interesting for young kids.

From the ecological garden visitors can go on wooden boardwalks that criss-cross through the park. It's a great place for a nature walk. Also, inside the park near the top of a hill is a Taoist temple with lots of interesting stone statues. After visiting the temple, visitors can take stairs (decorated with red lanterns) down to the SW corner of the park where a big playground is located.
