A Park in Xin Beitou

Beitou Park is located very close to Xinbeitou MRT Station, and makes for a good family day trip as there’s lots to do around the park. The park is at the center of the Beitou hot springs district. It’s possible to spot turtles, birds, and other park wildlife near Beitou stream, which winds through the park. In the center of the park is the eco-friendly Beitou public library, which includes a children’s reading area. Nearby is the Beitou Hot Spring Museum, and across the street is the Ketagalan Culture Center, a Taiwanese aboriginal culture museum. At the end of the park is the Millennium Hot Spring public baths (NT$40), and the Plum Garden historic site, which is a Japanese-style wooden building that now houses various exhibits. Finally, a 5 minute walk down the road is thermal valley, where visitors can see steam rising from geothermal hot springs.

There’s a lot to do in Beitou, and West of the park near the Xinbeitou MRT station is another big park, Qixing Park (七星公園), which has a big grassy fields for kids to run in. Next to it is Qihu Park (七虎公園), which has a playground and swimming pool. The historic Xinbeitou train station, next to the Xinbeitou MRT station, also may be of interest to kids interested in trains.
