An Iconic Hotel with Nearby Hiking Trails
The iconic Grand Hotel was built on Yuanshan Mountain in 1973 with the purpose of entertaining foreign guests at an extravagant hotel. Modern visitors are welcome to explore the main lobby, which includes a restaurant and some high-end shops. Behind the hotel is a series of hiking trails that lead to Jiantan Park (劍潭公園) and Changshou Park (長壽公園). The hiking trails include a fair amount of stairs, however the walkways are all well-maintained concrete sidewalks with guard rails, and there is a convenience store near Changshou Park to buy cold drinks, food, umbrellas, and other essentials. You can get some nice views of Taipei City (and especially Songshan airport) from the trails. You'll also find temples, shrines, and little animals (like snails and blue tailed newts) along the walking paths.
