1. Visit Dinosaurs at a Museum. See dinosaurs, or at least their bones, at the “Walking within Skeletons” permanent exhibit at the National Taiwan Museum’s Land Bank Exhibition Hall, across the street from 228 Peace Park. The hall contains huge dinosaur skeletons from the Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic Eras, and is a fun place to explore on a rainy day.

2. Explore a Flower Market. The Jianguo Holiday Flower Market is held every weekend under an expressway overpass, very close to the Daan Park playground. Finding a special plant, selecting flowers for a bouquet, or just walking around the covered market can be an interesting activity for parents and kids. During weekdays, visit the Taipei Wholesale Flower Market in Neihu, which also has a large selection of plants and cut flowers, as well as plastic flowers and gardening supplies.

3. Read a New Book. Most of Taipei’s public library’s have an English language section, however the biggest collection is a the Small World foreign language library at the Taipei Main Library. In the family reading room, there's giant size books, which can be fun to read to little kids on a rainy day.
Another option for finding a good book is to visit the Eslite flagship store in Xinyi, which has the largest Children’s book section in all of Taipei.

4. Play at a Play Center.

Hunkering down and finding a nice place to relax and enjoy some good food can be a fun activity on any rainy weekend, but what place do you choose? Taipei has a range of eating options for families from something unique like a theme restaurant, or a kid-focused restaurant with play space.
6. Have a Metro Adventure.
If you’re looking for a unique experience for a rainy Taipei day, try having some fun riding Taipei's amazing safe and clean metro trains. There’s a variety of art to see at different stations, underground malls to explore, riding above ground on the Brown Wenhu Line, and visiting the MRT Emergency Evacuation Exhibition Center, which uses hands-on exhibitions and interactive activities to teach about metro safety.

7. Watch a 3D or IMAX movie at the Astronomy Museum.
Looking to relax on a rainy day? What about watching one of the kid-friendly 3D or IMAX dome movies at the Astronomy Museum. The theaters play 30-50 minute movies at a very reasonable price (NT$100 adults, NT$50 kids), and can provide English-language headsets for most movies. Movies are science, nature, or astronomy themed.

8. Embrace the Rain, Go on a Nature Hike.
Even though it’s rainy, it can still be fun to throw on a poncho and some rain boots and go for a rainy day walk ... if it isn't raining too hard! While many of the places to go hiking in Taipei seem to include a lot of steps that can get quite slippery, a few good rainy day places are the Guandu Nature Park in Beitou District and the Dagouxi Riverside Park in Neihu District, or even a stroll through Da’an Forest Park in downtown Da’an District.

9. Walk Around the Living Mall.
On a rainy day, the Living Mall (also known as Core Pacific City), is a fascinating place to explore with kids. The complex has 5 different play centers, an indoor go-kart racing track, a ropes course, board game restaurant, bubble football field, infant swim center, coin arcade area, various stalls offering DIY craft activities, as well as a children’s floor selling clothes, toys, and other kid-friendly items. It’s easy to spend an entire rainy day wandering around this particular mall, just be careful as you might leave with a lot less NT$ than when you started.
10. Go Swimming at One of Taipei’s 12 Sports Centers
Each district in Taipei City has a sports center. Besides having facilities for adults, many of the centers provide some sort of children's pool, a play area, and a children’s fitness room, in addition to an indoor swimming pool.
