Bihu Trail

Yuanjue Waterfall Hike - A Toddler in Taipei - Explore Taiwan with Kids

A Kid-Friendly Hike from Dagouxi Riverside Park

Bihu Trail is a kid-friendly hike that starts at Xinfu Coal Mine Park, near the end of Dagouxi Riverside Park. The hike is about 1.2km, well paved with railings, and is fairly shady. There's one area near the start that has a lot of steps, but besides that one section the walk is very easy for kids (my 3yr old walked it). To reach the trail head, walk the .7km flat path through Dagouxi Riverside Park, and then cross the bridge at the end. Once your on the opposite side of the stream, walk through a worn grass path up to the road, and turn right tp make your way to the well marked trail entrance.

Near the trail head is an ecological pond and a short mine tunnel, and throughout the route you’ll find mine carts. The carts are mostly used for decoration as flower beds, but one area has a few large carts kids (and adults) can get inside for photos. Near the end of the hike is an area with views of Taipei 101. While hiking, it’s very easy to spot birds, butterflies, and dragonflies — and when we visited we even saw an Eagle about 20m from the path!

If you want to turn around early, the route just ends at some apartment buildings, so you probably aren’t missing much if you don't make it all the way to the official trail end.
