A Children's Fitness Club in Da'an District

If you’re looking for a bilingual children’s fitness club that offers a variety of fun kid-focused activities, check out My Gym 大安店 in Daan District. Classes are small, usually 8 - 10 kids (15 max), with a lead trainer and an assist trainer pair always in the room. The center uses a fitness system created in the US that incorporates music, dance, relays, games, and other special activities into weekly classes.

I recently attended a Terrific Tots class with my 3 year old. The class is a mix of free play and trainer led activities. On entering the carpeted play space, my son got some time to run around, play, and explore (the room gets re-arranged weekly) before our lead trainer, Amy, led the class in a warm-up routine. Classes are quick paced so kids don’t lose attention, and alternate between activities and free play on the equipment. When the music is going kids can play, and when it stops they return to the big red circle in the middle of the room to learn about the next activity. During our class, kids got to jump off a spring board, practice mat rolls, ride on a parachute, do relay runs, and ride on swings hung from ceiling hooks. After each activity kids received high fives from the trainers, and the class ended with the kids going back to the circle and doing a final “1 - 2 - 3, we are terrific!” chant, before saying good bye.

What I really enjoyed about our class was how kind, patient, and supportive the trainers are during each class, plus they do a great job running a safe and clean bilingual class room that kept all the kids active and paying attention! Plus, it always makes a parent feel good when after class your child says he’s had a great time, and asks when we’ll be going again. :)

Also, the school has recently under gone new management, and they’ve been making upgrades to the center and class space. Besides the classes, free play on the equipment is also available for members (just make a reservation in advance), and in January independent Martial Arts classes for kids 3 - 9, as well as half-day Preschool Prep are starting. Contact the center directly for membership details, plus check out their FB page to see more of the special events and activities taking place in the classroom.

Parent-Child Classes:

Tiny Tykes (7 to 13 months)

As tiny tykes are becoming mobile, gaining hand, arm and trunk control, class start with beginning stretches and exercises to warm-up. Special activity to nurture relationship between child and parent is also included in the program. Moreover, My Gym introduce unique activities that do not require any equipment so that children and parents can enjoy My Gym at home.

Waddlers (14 to 22 months)

At this age, a child is developing a wide range of skills at an astonishing rate. To develop Waddlers agility and balance, gymnastics and ball games are brought into the program. Instructors are dedicated in making My Gym a fun place with positive reinforcement and lots of encouragement to help young children achieve tasks and build confidence and positive self-esteem. During separation time, parents will take a step back and watch their children interact and socialize with other Waddlers.

Gymsters (23 months to 2.5 years)

As a child gains gross motor abilities, class focus will be on manipulative skills in a structured format. Children begin to talk in simple sentences. Their attention span grows, allowing them to focus on a longer activity. In Parent Share, children are encouraged to take on more new challenges with the help from their parents.

Terrific Tots (2.5 to 3.5 years)

In this special age group, My Gym prioritize more on building physical skills as Terrific Tots are introduced to Big Swings and Adventure. To prepare for Independent class, My Gym trainers interact more directly with children, helping them develop independence. During Explore Time, My Gym Kids pick their own activities.

Independent Classes: Kids Only

Mighty Mites (3.5 to 4.5 years)

Mighty Mites is My Gym’s first independent program, building greater independence and social awareness. Children develop their skills through positive reinforcement and encouragement. The trainers tenderly support the children in a nurturing environment, building positive self-esteem and confidence as children at this age become sensitive to peer pressure. Instead of My Gym trainers being “instructors”, they are children’s best friends.

Whiz Kids (4.5 to 5 years)

This class is packed full of activities and new challenges. Constant movement and healthy balance between building skills and having fun is the key in making fitness a habit. A child builds confidence and finds joy in achieving goals, and this feeling is one that will last a lifetime. He/she is more likely to remain active and maintain a healthy lifestyle that will lead to success in the future.

Cardio Champs (6 to 10 years)

Concentration span and physical skills become increasingly necessary when a child starts going to school. In this age group, the program will work on putting effort in to achieve a goal. By accomplishing each skill, children will become more confident and motivated. Through the program, children build team understanding and cooperative skills. Program combines a cardio workout along with strength and flexibility exercises. Focus is on specific muscle groups and utilize a 4-station circuit-training course. It challenges each child to work to his/her full capability, while maintaining confidence building and self-esteem as the highest priorities.
